Nairn Games & ShowsThroughout the year Nairn hosts a number of events offering entertainment for visitors and locals alike.
The first major event of the year is the Nairn Book & Arts Festival generally held during the second week of June.
The highlight of the year for the farming community is the Nairn Farmers' Show, held at the Nairn Showground on last Suturday in July.
As well as the livestock competitions, there are flower and produce categories for everything from honey and wine to dahlias and cabbages. You are welcome to enter, or just go along after morning judging to admire the talents of others.
The dog show is often a highlight of the day - especially for children - as is the farmers showing off their prizewinning stock.
As well as trade stands bringing you everything from tools and garden furniture to clothing, often from local suppliers, there is a number of charity tents well worth a visit. The children love to see the tractors, too.
A look around the food fair tent is not to be missed. Local food producers show off their wares and you can meet the person who made that chutney or bread - as well as being able to taste some of what they have on offer. This is food buying as it should be - locally bought and knowing exactly where it came from.
The Highland Games is Nairn's biggest event and usually held on the 3rd Saturday in August. The piping starts and 9.30am and the Highland dancing and athletics take place in the afternoon. Don't miss the spectacular Massed Pipes and Drums marching through the town around midday.
The heavy events, such as tossing the caber, are the most popular part of any games, and Nairn is no exception. The competitors will be going all out to with the Cuach na Cuiridh, the Cup of the Strong Man, which is presented to the overall winner of the heavy events.
Held in August, the Nairn International Jazz Festival grows in popularity every year and attracts a host of well-known musicians, from mainstream to traditional, with a bit of blues mixed in.
Autumn sees Highland Feast, the Highland food and drink festival. The day starts with a harvest thanksgiving service, which you are welcome to attend, or come along later for some foodie fun. Cookery demonstrations using local produce take place throughout the day, as well as culinary fun for the children. Loca food producers highlight their goods, and you can taste your way round the tent, sampling beers, preserves, cakes and fantastic meats such as Highland wild boar and Aberdeen Angus beef.
