Every year Highland Council's education, culture and sport team puts together a host of summer activities for local families and visitors. As well as art, music and drama, there are outdoor activities such as sports, nature walks and beach entertainment.

Experience a journey into Nairn's past with Living History re-enactments. The clash of steel echoes throughout Nairnshire's past from the wars of independence through to the Jacobite rising.

Hear the tales, try on the armour of your ancestors, feel the weight of their weapons and be a Braveheart for an afternoon.

Take a splash in the clean surf of Nairn Central beach, recipient of the prestigious Blue Flag award in recent years.

Alternatively, enjoy a workout at Nairn Leisure Centre's top quality fitness suite, followed by a relaxed swim in the pool or a session in the steam room.

It's terrific value, especially if you take advantage of the hugely popular High Life scheme.

Explore your own creativity in professionally led workshops in visual arts and crafts, dancing, acting and music.

Look out for special family sessions so you can play together, and enjoy the chance to sit back and be entertained at special story-telling sessions in Nairn Library.

There's an invitation in October to delve deeper into the past during Highland Archaeology Week with a series of walks, talks, demonstrations and activities with themes from the Stone Age to the Industrial Age.

The full summer activity programme and booking details are distributed through schools in June, and extra copies are available from the library or service point on the High Street.

Please contact Highland Council's education, culture and sport services from June for further information on 01667 458523.
